My 'Black Mirror' dream

There is a series called Black Mirror, and it's about mirroring those aspects of our current society which we typically do not want to see. By taking those darker ('black') aspects and exaggerating, or projecting them into the future, you get an image of a society which feels as dystopic to us now, but which contains a grain of truth about our current society. A few days ago I woke up and remembered my dreams. I don't often remember my dreams, and if I do only parts of it, but this one was crystal clear. I was able to take the memory and reconstruct the original story in my dream. Okay, here goes...

---------------------------------------------------------------
A new technology arrived.. again.. this time companies everywhere were quicker than ever before to jump onto the bandwagon. Using this device one can have a completely virtual environment, or switch to a partially virtual mixed reality environment. A small band you put around your forehead able to project imagery into your eyes, fully 3D, high-resolution. Employers realized you can use this to make workers more efficient. With this device, you don't have to exchange information anymore the old-fashioned way, you simply tell people what to do through the device. The mixed reality environment showed the workers exactly what to do. Most people took time to adopt it, took time to get used to the technology. Some get into burn-out quicker because of it. Some are not able to adjust to it and get fired. I meet an employer, who is very happy about one of his employees. With a big smile he tells me: "He became very good at it instantly, he's my best employee. I elected him employee of the month!" I went and talked to the employee. "I hear you're very good, that's amazing, you are able to be so good at using this device immediately. And it's so new!" I tell him. Almost shruggingly he replies "Well. It is new... but at the same time it is very old..." This point was very clear, it was implying that it wasn't that hard to learn, because he remembers working with something similar before.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
And this is where I wake up.

What I liked about this dream is that it had two messages at the same time. The current trend of introducing technology that everybody has to get on board on, and if you don't do it you risk unemployment. And at the same time it is implied that everything in this universe happened before in some way or another. In other times, on earth or on other planets, other galaxies, in parallel universes, or in dreams or other dimensions (whatever that word means)... similar things have occurred before.

Cyberbuddhism

Here's an interesting concept: Cyberbuddhism. Cyberbuddhism explores if traditional Buddhist philosophy, epistemology, way of approaching life, training of the mind, and approach to happiness can be combined with modern cyberism/science. - Training device which rewards equanimity (Upekkha)? Monitoring our physiology which detects when we are having craving or averse thoughts to any of our sensory input, then warning us through a feedback mechanism. We could use this device to train ourselves. This device could also come in the form of a brain implant, for those truly aspiring to get rid of their desires and aversions (Tanha). As a practical example: when we see something which we desire, our pupils enlargen. When we see something which scares us, our pupils dilate. In Buddhism, having desires and aversions are said to be our primary cause of suffering. Not because it is a 'sin' or because it is 'bad', as those with a Christian background might feel threatene...

What wasps can teach us

Summer 2018. I am volunteering in the kitchen at EJ Festival, a festival themed spirituality and connection, a gathering of 250 people in nature. The vibe is sky-high, as it's supposed to be at events like this ;) After a few days the amount of wasps present on the terrain rises significantly. Without a few days hundreds of wasps are flying in and around the kitchen and shared eating-spaces. Our ability to relax into the moment is being tested. Some people get stung. Wasp-traps are proposed and implemented. For two days this continues. It doesn't sit right with me. It feel anger and sadness around it. I decide to share my vision on the matter. To me it feels like, when we as humans have a problem we search for the solution outside ourselves. "It hurts me, so it has to go." Which in this case means: death. Instead of looking for a compromise, or try to find the solution within ourselves. Not a lot of attention is given to my considerations. I share with others. Some...

Yoga, autisme, ayurveda

M'n ogen dicht doen helpt me dan.
